The Pella Christian boys and girls basketball teams fell to Indianola on the road Friday night in a Little Hawkeye Conference varsity doubleheader heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Eagle girls dropped their contest 53-36. Pella Christian had a 22-20 lead going into halftime but were outscored 19-8 in the third quarter to fall into a hole they couldn’t crawl out of in the fourth quarter as they just scored six points in the final frame. Pella Christian was led in scoring by Addie Van Arendonk who had 15 points. Head Coach Brendan Foughty said his team played well in the first half and saw a lot of positives.
“I think we did a really job in the first half creating some points off turnovers, getting out in transition, getting some easy buckets against the pressure. We really focused last week just on when we see pressure if we are able to attack. Not just break it, maybe last year we so worried about breaking pressure, but this year we’ve been talking more about attacking pressure and making teams pay for it. I thought we did a good job of that in the first half.”
The Eagle girls fall to 5-9 on the season and will next compete on Tuesday against Albia. The boys team dropped their contest Friday night 54-44. Pella Christian found themselves just down one point at halftime but struggled offensively in the second half and slowing down some runs by Indianola defensively.
The Pella Christian boys were led in scoring by Landon Fransman and Gilbert Flagel who each had 11 points. The Eagle boys fall to 4-8 on the season and will next compete on Tuesday against Fairfield.
