The Knoxville Basketball Squads got two well earned and blowout sweeps over Cardinal Friday with the girls snapping a seven game losing streak 72-41 and the boys totally dominated the Comets 87-30 heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The big story of the night was Hannah Dunkin, who only needed 22 points to become the sixth girl in Knoxville Basketball history to surpass the 1,000 career point mark. She did it emphatically and the moment came on the first possession of the second half.
But H.D. was not done editing the record book. She ended the night with 40 points breaking the single game scoring record that had stood since 1996 held by Tracy Flowers.
Sister Addy scored 13 points and Addi Williams had ten for the Panthers who jumped out to a 33-15 halftime lead and outscored Cardinal in the second half 39-26. The boys had another record established as Lincoln Norris canned 11 three point shots, breaking his own record he set on Monday against Pella Christian with ten as the boys jumped out to a 27-8 lead after one quarter and cruised from there. Norris ended up with 33 points to lead the class 3A #5 Panthers who improved to 10-0 on the season and a perfect 6-0 in conference play. The girls are now 3-9 this season. Both teams will take on Davis County on Monday in a make up game. You can hear it live on 95.3 KNIA.
