A rural Colfax man has been sentenced to ten years in prison for entering two homes and a travel trailer in northwest Jasper County. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department said 26-year-old William Colton Hopkins was caught in the act of taking items from a home along Highway 330 North on October 17th of last year. The criminal complaint says Hopkins fled on a bicycle, and was caught in a rural Rhodes home later that night. The same day, Jasper County deputies say the rural Colfax man stole a machete and gold watch from a travel trailer in rural Collins. He also broke several windows on the camper.
Court records show Hopkins pleaded guilty to three Class D felonies, including two counts of 3rd Degree Burglary and one count of 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief. His sentence from District Court Judge Terry Rickers includes two consecutive five year prison terms and just under $4,000 in suspended fines.
