The Newton boys basketball team travels southeast tonight to take on Washington in a non-conference game. The Cardinals are 6-5 overall, but have won 4 of 5 non-conference games. That includes last Thursday night’s 51-46 home win over Albia. Landon Bozarth was Newton’s high scorer in that victory with 17 points. Newton’s other non-conference wins were at Grinnell and at home over Marshalltown and Des Moines Hoover. The one out-of-conference loss was at Des Moines’ Wells Fargo Arena January 4th to #4 in Class 3a Knoxville. 

The Washington Demons are 5-7. They last played this past Friday night and lost to Keokuk in Keokuk 71-35. Two Washington players average over ten points per game. Senior Logan McDole averages 11.6 points and junior Drew Conrad averages 10.4. 

The Cardinals and Demons have played three common opponents. Newton defeated Albia and Grinnell, and lost to Oskaloosa. Washington lost to Albia and Grinnell, and won by two points at home over Oskaloosa. 

Tonight’s Newton Basketball varsity game at Washington is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
