By the end of February, the Newton School Board plans to have selected the new Assistant Principal at Berg Middle School. Grundmeyer Leader Services of Huxley is leading the search to fill the position. The firm was hired by the school board during last week’s meeting when the resignation of former Assistant Principal Stephanie Langstraat was officially accepted.
The Newton School District and Langstraat reached a Resignation of Employment and Release Agreement, which was unanimously approved by the school board. In the agreement, Langstraat voluntarily resigned her position effective December 13th, and agreed to never apply for employment in the school district again. In return, the School District made a $20,000 lump sum payment to Langstraat for remaining wages, and another $20,000 lump sum payment for any claim of compensation for damages under the law, including emotional distress. If contacted by a prospective employer, the school district is to only provide information about her position with the school district, dates of employment and rate of pay, confirm her voluntary resignation, and state that “Stephanie Langstraat demonstrates a deep commitment to student success and well-being”. The agreement also states the terms represent a compromise of any and all potential claims by Langstraat against the Newton School District and those connected with the District, including employees, administrators, and contractors.
