Pella Basketball Teams Split with Des Moines Christian
A step out of the Little Hawkeye Conference turned into a split for the Pella basketball teams with Des Moines Christian on Tuesday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Dutch boys finished with a 74-64 victory, while the girls fell 50-45 to the Lions.

In the boys matchup, the teams traded the lead multiple times before the Dutch found a slight one-point edge in the final minute of the 1st. Pella would not trail again, with a 28-point third quarter allowing them to expand to a 16-point lead. DMC opened the fourth quarter working that lead down to seven points before the Dutch would hang on. Jack McGuire led Pella with a 26-point performance.

Pella’s girls built a 10 point lead early in the 2nd quarter, only for that margin to dissipate, in large part due to 19 first-half turnovers. While the Dutch girls fell behind by as much as six, they fought back to take a lead in the final period, but couldn’t hang on. Katie Scheckel and Kamryn Long each scored 13 points to lead the team.

The Dutch boys improve to 8-5 overall and the girls fall to 11-4; both return to action at home on Friday against Norwalk.

Dutch Girls Wrestlers Defeat Cardinal, Fall to Rockets in Eddyville
Pella wrapped up the girls wrestling dual season with a trip down to Eddyville, defeating Cardinal 48-24 and falling to the hosting Rockets 71-12.

Head Coach Adam Hale:
“We knew going in how tough of a program EBF has, but I was glad to see our girls not backing down. We’ve been emphasizing that even in a match where you’re losing, you should compete as if you expect to win, meaning you’re looking to score the next point or win the next position. I thought overall we did that. After getting some meets canceled earlier in the season, we were really thankful that this opportunity to compete came up, grateful for EBF and Cardinal for making it happen.”
