Former Pleasantville head baseball coach Sheldon Card has been honored as the Class 2A Central District Baseball Coach of the Year.

Card was presented his award at this past weekend’s Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association clinic and awards banquet. Card led the Trojans to a state tournament appearance last season after upsetting top ranked Des Moines Christian in the substate finals to punch their ticket.  The longtime head coach celebrated 451 wins as head coach of the Pleasantville baseball team and stepped down after last season. However, Card is not going anywhere, as he will take over as head boys golf coach for the Trojans.

Card started his baseball coaching career at Hampton-Dumont, where he went to high school as a volunteer assistant when he was in college and he also spent two years coaching baseball at Coe College as an assistant. He later went on to spend one season as an assistant coach at Pleasantville before he took over as head coach in 2000. Card not only was a successful baseball coach at Pleasantville, he also advocated for and helped mentor baseball coaches all across the state through his dedication to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association, an organization in which he served as president during the 2023-2024 season.
