
The NCMP boys swim team took first place in Indianola Thursday night, while the Newton girls and boys wrestling teams lost dual meets at Dallas Center-Grimes by similar scores.
The NCMP boys collected 415 points in defeating Indianola, Grinnell, and Oskaloosa. The Cardinals’ Drew Fuller and Hudson Meyer finished first and second in the 100-yard backstroke. Ethan Comer won the 100-yard breaststroke, and Caleb Punt won the 500-yard Freestyle. The Cardinal’s 400-yard Freestyle Relay team of Finn Martin, Caleb Punt, Drew Fuller, and MacK Copeland also placed first. The next meet for the NCMP boys is the conference swim meet at Boone Saturday, February 1st.
The Newton girls wrestling team had three wins in a 59-15 loss to the Mustangs. Kylee Adams at 105 pounds, Rosa Borja and 110 pounds, and Stella Cupples at 115 pounds won their matches. Up next for the Cardinal girl wrestlers is a 9 a.m. Saturday tournament at Colfax-Mingo High School.
The Newton boys won four matches and lost their meet with Dallas Center-Grimes 54-21. The Cardinal victories were from Kent Montgomery at 106 pounds, Abel Aldama at 113 pounds, Aiden Robson at 150 pounds, and Nick Milburn at 215 pounds. On Saturday, the Newton boys are among 10 teams scheduled to wrestle at Iowa City High, beginning at 9 a.m..
