The Newton girls and boys wrestling and bowling teams travel to three different sites to compete today.
Newton is one of eighteen schools scheduled to participate in a girls varsity wrestling tournament at Colfax-Mingo High School. The Cardinal girls hope to rebound from a 59-15 loss to Dallas Center-Grimes Thursday night. Kylee Adams at 105 pounds, Rosa Borja and 110 pounds, and Stella Cupples at 115 pounds were the only Newton wrestlers who won their matches.
Iowa City High is where the Cardinal boys will wrestle. They are part of a ten team field at the City High Clyde Bean-Brad Smith Duals. The Newton boys won four matches in their 54-21 loss at Dallas Center-Grimes Thursday. The Cardinal victories were from Kent Montgomery at 106 pounds, Abel Aldama at 113 pounds, Aiden Robson at 150 pounds, and Nick Milburn at 215 pounds.
The Newton girls and boys bowling teams face Pella Christian at Statesmen Lanes in Oskaloosa. The Cardinal bowlers last meet was last Saturday, when both teams defeated Bondurant-Farrar at Cardinal Lanes, and lost to Oskaloosa. Austin Kennedy bowled a 268 high game and a 450 high series for the Newton boys, while Cardinal Gabbie Humphrey led all girl bowlers with a 236 high game and a 417 high series.
Both wrestling events for Newton at Colfax and Iowa City begin at 9 a.m., while Newton’s bowlers will start their meet at Noon.
