The second rotation of the Little Hawkeye Conference basketball slate started with a home split for the Pella basketball teams against Norwalk, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Dutch boys led wire-to-wire in a 66-46 win over the Warriors, while the #10 Pella girls fell to #6 Norwalk 62-48.
In the evening, it was a dominating performance against the road team who was missing top scorer Grady Sigrist. Pella didn’t trail and at one point built a 25-point lead. Jack McGuire continued a strong stretch, leading the Dutch with 23 points, followed by 14 from Austin Schulte.
Pella’s girls traded the lead several times with the ranked Warriors in the first half but a few late 2nd quarter turnovers gave the advantage away. The Dutch fell behind by as much as 15 before pulling the contest back within a four-point deficit in the 3rd quarter and under double-digits in the 4th. Katie Scheckel tallied 10 points and Jenna Oltman nabbed eight steals in the effort.
The Dutch boys improve to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference standings, while the Dutch girls drop to 11-5 overall and 4-3 in the Little Hawkeye. Action resumes on the road; the boys are at Des Moines North Monday and the girls at Southeast Polk on Tuesday.
