The Pella Christian basketball teams struggled in their Homecoming doubleheader Friday night, as the girls fell to Oskaloosa 49-39 and the boys lost to the Indians 62-44, and both games were broadcast live on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
After a slow start to the first quarter, the Eagle girls battled back to take an 11-6 lead at the end of the period. Oskaloosa responded by winning the second quarter 20-11 to take a 26-22 advantage into halftime. The game remained tight out of the break, with Pella Christian claiming the third quarter 13-8 to take a 35-34 advantage into the final eight minutes of play, but the Indians controlled the fourth quarter to pull away for the ten-point victory. Faith Kacmarynski was the lone Eagles player to reach double-figures in the loss, knocking down four three pointers en route to scoring 14 points. In the nightcap, the Pella Christian boys found themselves trailing early and were never able to climb out of the hole. Oskaloosa jumped out to an 18-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, then stretched the advantage to 37-18 at halftime. The Eagles fell behind 51-26 heading into the final eight minutes of action, but won the fourth quarter 18-11 to pull the final deficit back down to 18. Gilbert Flagel was Pella Christian’s lone double-digit scorer on the night, contributing 12 points in the loss.
The Eagle girls fell to 6-10 overall and 0-7 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, while the boys dropped to 5-9 overall and 1-6 in the league. The Pella Christian boys will look to bounce back on the road at Centerville on Monday, while the girls will try to rebound in their only game next week at Norwalk on Tuesday.
