The Simpson women’s basketball team played a consistent contest against the Spartans of Dubuque on Saturday winning 75-68, while the Storm men fell behind early and couldn’t recover as they fell 95-71 in a doubleheader heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Storm women led the entire contest except an early back and forth, leading 17-14 after the first and 37-29 at halftime despite a dismal shooting effort. The shooting effort did not improve in the second half, but the Storm consistently found offense from their suffocating press and got early buckets to seal the win, never letting Dubuque get back within four points the entire rest of the game. Haley Rasmussen scored 17 points to lead the squad, while Taylor Hansen scored 11 off the bench.

The Storm men gave up 50 first half points and couldn’t keep up against the first place Spartans, trailing by double-digit points in the opening minutes and were never able to recover. The Storm bench made waves in the second half including a strong effort by Zay Howard off the bench with 18 points to lead Simpson in scoring, but couldn’t keep up with the barrage of outside shooting from Dubuque and 24 turnovers in the contest.

The Storm women are now 10-8 overall and 6-3 in conference, while the men are 4-14 and 1-8, both teams play rival Central on the road on Wednesday.
