Jasper County Senior Nutrition is looking for volunteers with their own transportation to help deliver meals in the Colfax area two days a week. Program Director Kelli Van Manen says the time commitment is on Thursdays and Fridays from approximately 10:45 a.m. to noon. Since volunteers provide their own transportation, they are reimbursed at 70 cents per mile. 

“We go about 350 miles per day, and go anywhere in Jasper County where people need meals.”

Van Manen says Jasper County Senior Nutrition provides over 80,000 meals per year to Jasper County residents primarily over the age of 60. Those meals are served at congregate meal sites in Newton, Colfax, and Monroe. But according to Van Manen, most are delivered to homes throughout the county by paid drivers. There are a few volunteer routes, and anyone interested in covering them in the Colfax area should call Jasper County Senior Nutrition at 641-792-7102.
