The newly-ranked Pella boys basketball team hung on at the end of a Des Moines North rally to earn a 61-57 non-conference win Monday night on the road.
The #10 in 3A Dutch led by as much as 11 points at the halftime break and held the edge for the majority of the contest, but saw that advantage shrink several times to within one possession in the fourth quarter. Multiple timely made baskets and defensive stops allowed the road team to come away with an out-of-league victory.
Pella was paced by 15 points from Jack McGuire, 13 points and eight rebounds from Tyson Barnes, and 12 points from Austin Schulte. The Dutch improve to 10-5 overall and return to the conference slate and their home gym Friday against Newton.
The #10 in 4A Pella girls are on the road at Southeast Polk this evening in an attempt to snap a three-game losing streak. All of those have come against ranked foes. The Rams are ranked 14th in Class 5A with a 6-9 overall record, and knocked off #15 in 5A Ankeny last Friday in a thriller. Varsity action begins at 6:15 p.m. at Southeast Polk High School.
