Two blocks of South 8th Avenue East in Newton are currently closed to through traffic, and the street is not expected to re-open until the weekend. Newton city staff say barricades are up at both South 2nd and South 3rd Avenue East. The closure is due to the installation of new water service at 203 East 8th Street South. Staff says Vanderpool Construction Incorporated of Indianola is doing the work, and the closure is expected to end sometime Friday.
