Another battle of ranked foes was too much to overcome for the #10 in 4A Pella girls basketball team, falling to #15 in 5A Southeast Polk 78-47 on the road Tuesday evening. Despite trading the lead a few times early, the Rams pulled away by the end of the 1st quarter and didn’t look back. Head Coach Blaine Forsythe said there were glimpses of the basketball they typically want to play, but the Dutch committed too many turnovers to stay competitive.
“We had too many empty possessions from not taking care of the basketball and giving them extra possessions. We will get back to playing simple basketball, playing to our strengths, and playing with confidence. We had an intentional practice of rebounding the basketball and I am proud of our players for taking a step forward in that area of the game.”
Riley Parks and Kamryn Long had ten points each to lead the Dutch and Maggie Thompson scored eight points and nabbed eight rebounds. Pella falls to 11-6 overall and returns at home Friday with the boys to host Newton.
