In their third road game in the last four days, the Pella Christian boys basketball team finished the week 2-1 by defeating Van Meter 53-41 on Thursday night.
The contest started with both teams firing on all cylinders offensively in the first quarter, with the Eagles claiming a 20-15 lead after the opening eight minutes of play. From there the defenses began to settle in, as Pella Christian slightly grew their advantage by winning the second quarter 10-9 to take a 30-24 edge into halftime. The Eagles defense continued to limit the Bulldogs out of the break, holding them to just six points in the third quarter to further grow their lead to 42-30, before going on to secure the 12-point victory. Gilbert Flagel led the offense on the night with a game-high 15 points, while Deacon Branderhorst and Landon Fransman added 12 and 11 points respectively to help Pella Christian improve to 7-10 overall.
The Eagles boys basketball team has the weekend off, and are slated to return to action with the girls squad for a home Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader against Newton on Tuesday.
