The Knoxville City Council continued their annual department budget presentations Monday night.
The presentations are given each year to break down the annual fiscal year budget for each department, provide the council and public with information regarding spending, and if there are any changes coming or big projects on the horizon that will be funded. On Monday the council saw presentations for administration, planning and zoning, and the fire department. During the administration presentation, Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery said she is seeking a 10% raise in the upcoming fiscal year. Out of 14 cities in Iowa comparable in size to Knoxville, Ussery is the 12th highest paid city manager among city managers for those 14 towns despite Knoxville being the fourth largest in population of those cities. Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch and four of the council members showed a general consensus of support for the raise while council member Megan Day had multiple concerns and stated that 10% was probably too much. No action was taken as these are just presentations given before the final budget will be officially approved later on.
Also at the meeting the council approved a purchase agreement with the Indiana Township Fire Department for an ambulance.
