Education requirements are currently being debated in the Iowa Legislature, including additional tests for students to graduate high school. State Senator Julian Garrett tells KNIA News he supports the proposal for a citizenship test to be passed for students to earn their diploma.
“The student must score at least a 60% on this test to pass, but if the student doesn’t get a 60% they can try it again. This is an attempt to get students to learn about civics and how the government works here in the United States. That’s a pretty standard test for new citizens that are coming in, so we are proposing to require that for high school students who are graduating.”
