Thirteen Newton High School students will be in Cedar Rapids tomorrow, competing in the Iowa High School Speech Association’s Large Group State Speech contest. Every student who performed for Newton at the District Contest at South Tama High School on January 25th advanced to State. Six of the students will compete twice tomorrow, with three participating in Improv and Musical Theatre, while three of the four members in the Readers Theatre group will also be in the Musical Theatre performance. Newton Speech coach Will Edgar says students can advance from State to All-State.
“The week after State, February 15th, there is an All-State performance as well. That is at Ames.”
The Large Group State Competition for Newton’s speech students begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Rapids Washington High School.
