fire-hydrants

The City of Newton is continuing the annual Fire Hydrant Painting Program. Since 2016, the City’s Water Distribution Department has contracted with JR Stelzer Company of Lincoln, Nebraska for the painting. Each year about 100 fire hydrants get sandblasted, primered, a coat of Tnemec Red paint, and a Tnemec clear coat. Newton City staff says the process ensured that even hydrants over 50 years old look and function like new.

Most of the fire hydrant painting this year is occurring in southeast Newton. City staff anticipates all fire hydrants in the city will be repainted within the next four to five years.
