DCG Sweeps Indianola Basketball in Home Doubleheader
The Indianola basketball teams were swept by Dallas Center-Grimes Friday night at home, the girls falling 56-32 and the boys 64-55 on senior night as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Indians girls came out strong, earning an 11-9 lead after the first quarter, but went ice cold from the field in the second as the Mustangs outscored them 12-3 to lead 21-14 at halftime. The Mustangs began to fill up the scoreboard in the third, going on a big run to get the lead to double digits and never looked back leading 39-25 after the third.
Indians head coach Jeff Janssen said he saw a lot of improvement from the first matchup with DCG including limiting their turnovers, but were unable to make shots early and that wore them down throughout the rest of the game. Madi Grover led the Indians with 17 points.
The Indians boys traded buckets early with the Mustangs until DCG hit multiple three’s to pull away leading 19-12 at the end of the first quarter and that would be as close as Indianola got it the rest of the way, with the lead hovering between 13 and 9 points the entire ballgame. DCG led 39-28 at halftime, and 50-39 at the end of the third. Indianola got within nine points in the fourth quarter to seemingly grab momentum, only for the Mustangs to go on a 5-0 run to put the game out of reach. Easton McGraw scored 18 points, while Bryant Ritchie scored 12.
The girls are now 6-13 overall and 5-5 in conference, while the boys are 4-12 and 4-6, and both teams will travel to Pella on Tuesday.
