love-letters

Newton Community Theatre’s latest production will be performed this weekend and next, with different cast members for each show. Newton Community Theatre Administrator Sue Buekema says twelve volunteers from the Newton Community will be performing the play “Love Letters” the next two Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday afternoons.

“Andrew and Melissa start writing letters to each other in second grade. They go on doing that through their adult life. They do not marry but stay friends and talk to each other through letters.”

The play is set over the course of  1937 to 1985, and follows the lives of the main characters Andrew and Melissa separately. Buekema says each of the six shows will feature a different pair of local volunteers performing the play. Newton City Council members Joel Mills and Melissa Dalton are paired together for the Friday, February 21st show, while school board member Travis Padget will be in the show the following night on Saturday, February 22nd. Show times are 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth and can be purchased at the door or in advance at the theatre’s box office, which can be reached at 641-792-1230. The Newton Community Theatre and Box Office are located at the Newton YMCA on South 8th Avenue East in Newton. Newton Community Theatre Administrator Sue Buekema talks more about the upcoming play on today’s Let’s Talk Newton.
