AFSCME Council 61 President Todd Copley says the Jasper County Board of Supervisors want to strip their union contract of all provisions except wages. He calls that an aggressive and targeted attack on the rights of public sector workers.

Copley issued a statement from AFSCME Council 61’s Des Moines Office saying the Board of Supervisors would be eliminating essential workplace protections like seniority rights, grievance procedures, and other critical benefits that ensure fairness and stability for county employees. The ASFCME union leader added that stripping away workplace protections is an attack on the dignity and security of every worker, and ASFCME Council 61 and its members will not accept this attempt to erode public sector contracts.
