 A  51-year-old Newton man faces a felony burglary charge for allegedly taking a car from the garage of a house in northwest Newton. According to Newton Police, Christopher Scott Sutphin entered an unoccupied home on North 4th Avenue West on February 5th, and took the keys to a 2014 Lexus parked in the garage, before leaving the scene with the vehicle. The car’s owner came home and called the police, and within 30 minutes of the call, Newton officers say Sutphin returned to the house with the vehicle and was arrested. He is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, a class D felony, and Operating a Vehicle Without the Owners Consent, an aggravated misdemeanor. Sutphin is being held at the Jasper County Jail with his next court appearance set for Tuesday, February 18th.
