The Knoxville Police Department is reminding citizens to clean around their furnace vents and gas meters.

Local communities saw a substantial amount of snowfall on Wednesday and it is important to remember that these devices need at least three feet of clearance to operate properly. A build up of snow or ice on the devices can cause high levels of carbon monoxide to be present in the home or excessive gas pressure leading to equipment malfunctions.
