A man from western Colorado allegedly led Newton Police on a high speed chase earlier this week before crashing his motorcycle. The arrest report says 34-year-old Eric Randall Thompson of Silt, Colorado ran through private yards after the accident late Monday night, and officers were unable to catch him. He was taken into custody the next day, and is being held in the Jasper County Jail.

According to Newton Police, officers were sent to a domestic disturbance on East 3rd Street South at 11:30 Monday evening. As they arrived, a motorcycle left the driveway at a high rate of speed and ran a stop sign. Officers pursued the motorcycle until it crashed at West 4th Street South and South 5th Avenue West.

Newton Police believe Thompson was driving the motorcycle, and have charged him with Eluding over 25 mph Above the Speed Limit, a class D felony. He’s also charged with Driving with a Revoked License, a Serious Misdemeanor, and Interference with Official Acts, a Simple Misdemeanor. Thompson has a court appearance scheduled for next Tuesday.
