
Central College men’s track and field sophomore Jack Brown came within a second of breaking the school record in the men’s mile Friday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
With 20 heats and a total of 354 runners, Brown clocked in at 4 minutes, 6.15 seconds. His time is second in program history, just shy of Noah Jorgenson’s record mark of 4:05.18 in 2023. Derek Webster also ran a pair of personal bests Friday, finishing 278th in the mile in 4:17.81 and taking 241st in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:42.53.
Central has a few entries in women’s events in Boston today, while the rest of the team is in Grinnell for the Darren Young Classic.
