windchillchart-3

An arctic blast is impacting the region this week, with cold air expected to be dangerous at times. According to the National Weather Service, wind chills will not get above zero degrees between now and Friday, with air temperatures staying the single digits during the day and dropping below zero overnight and the early morning hours. The coldest times in the forecast appear to be Tuesday through Thursday. Wind chill values as cold as 25 below zero are possible, with frostbite in those conditions occurring in as little as 30 minutes. Additionally, chances for light snow return on Monday, with the highest accumulations expected near the Iowa-Missouri border. Travel may be impacted, especially as ice and snow melt remain less effective in the bitter cold.
