The Pella Community Food Shelf is hosting the Coldest Night of the Year 5K on Saturday.
The Coldest Night of the Year is an annual, family-friendly walk/run fundraiser hosted in locations across the United States and Canada. The event will be held at the Pella Memorial Building and check-in will begin at 4 pm. Opening remarks will begin at 4:45 pm and the 5K will start at 5 pm. A light meal will then be served at 6 pm, before the event concludes at 7 pm. Pella Community Food Shelf Executive Director Melissa Zula says that funds raised from the event will help serve the more than 700 families that utilize their services.
“We actually serve 16 zipcodes through here, so these funds will all go towards our general fund, which primarily covers the cost of food. So, when you go out and you walk and you support us here through this event or just through donating in general, that’s where it primarily goes back to.”
