The Jasper County Board of Supervisors will be holding the public hearing on the County’s proposed 2026 Five Year Road Program in the evening. County Board Chairman Brandon Talsma says there are two reasons for the 6 p.m. start time on Tuesday, March 4th.
“Number one is so it’s not confused as part of our regular meeting. It’s pretty clear it’s a stand alone meeting for the five year road plan for secondary roads. Number two is holding it in the evening, we try to make it as accessible as possible.”
Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch also notes the Iowa Department of Transportation has reversed the approval process this year.
“Once we get through the public hearing and we are all in agreement on what we are doing as far as the program and the structure, the first step is I have to route it to the DOT for approval this year. Get them to review and approve it. Then I will cycle it back for approval to you guys. So they have switched the whole workflow around this year.”
That 6 p.m. March 4th public hearing on Jasper County’s proposed 2026 Five Year Road Program will be held in the County Board of Supervisors Room on the second floor of the courthouse in downtown Newton.
