The Indianola City Council appointed Steve Richardson to serve as Indianola Mayor at their meeting Tuesday, after interviewing multiple candidates.

Richardson, who was serving on the Indianola City Council as an at-large member, tells KNIA News he feels the Mayor will be a crucial point of stability for the city that is currently going through employee turnover and tough budget decisions.

“I think the big thing, I want to provide that gap that maybe is there between the city council and the community, simply in the fact that a lot of community residents, the city council isn’t on the radar for a lot of folks. I just think that, to get out and start talking about it and leading a little bit more in the community as far as what we are doing and how we are doing it and try to get more community engagement is really a critical component. Once the council sets their priorities, I just want to make sure I can convey those priorities to the community and help bring the community along.”

Richardson will fill out the term that runs through December 31st, and said he plans on running for a full term when up for election in November. Hear more on today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
