The Pella City Council moved closer toward the annual budget process at Tuesday’s meeting. A discussion was held during policy and planning regarding the proposed maximum tax levy for the upcoming year — which is the maximum amount that council could move forward with, but the actual rate will be determined following budget work sessions in March. Action items on Tuesday’s agenda that were approved included public hearings for 69 kV Circuit Breaker bids and a rezoning application by Beau Browne; resolutions include a preliminary plat for that proposed Hempstead Hills project, as well as scheduling a public hearing to take action on a lease agreement at Bos Landen Golf Course, authorization of transferring surplus funds from the electric utility and advancement of costs associated with an Urban Renewal Project. Special event permits for the Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt, Klompen Classic, Historic City Tours, and Thursdays in Pella were also moved forward.
