Jasper County and the city of Mingo have reached agreement on a Memorandum of Understanding for replacement of a small bridge on the northeast edge of town. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says a new 80’ concrete continuous slab bridge will be placed over a small creek on East Street.

“Essentially this establishes that we are going to administer the funding Mingo got through the City Bridge Construction Program. The county will own this new bridge as it does the current bridge today. We will take care of the maintenance and inspections for the new bridge as required. It establishes that we went through the trouble of getting it designed and will administer the construction costs, cash flow it.”

The Iowa Department of Transportation let bids for this project earlier this week. Those bids are being evaluated, so a recommendation for a construction contract can be made to the Jasper County Board of Supervisors.
