After dominating Davis County Thursday night, the Pella Christian boys basketball team will square off with Grand View Christian for the Class 2A District 10 Championship on Tuesday.
After earning a first-round bye in postseason action, the Thunder snuck past PCM for a 73-61 win in the district semifinals on Thursday night. Grand View, who is in their first season competing in the Heart of Iowa Conference, finished as the conference champions with a perfect 16-0 mark against league opponents. Overall, the Thunder finished the season with a 21-1 record, with their lone loss coming against Class 3A #1 Clear Lake.
As a team, Grand View Christian ranks in the top five of six stat categories in Class 2A, including blocks per game (1st – 149), effective field goal percentage (2nd – 59.8%), field goal percentage (3rd – 51.3%), three pointers made (4th – 198), three point percentage (5th – 36.8%), and assists per game (5th – 393).
The Thunder have been led on the season by senior Emiliano Barrantes, and juniors Jameson Scharnberg and Brayden Hoben. Barrantes enters Tuesday’s contest averaging a double-double on the season, recording 21.5 points and 14 rebounds per game, while also posting 4.3 blocks a contest. The juniors Scharnberg and Hoben, who scored 49 combined points in an 82-49 win over Pella Christian on December 19th, come into the matchup averaging 17.1 and 15.9 points a game respectively.
