A Prairie City man has been sentenced to two years in prison for attacking another Prairie City man with a hammer and kitchen knife last year. According to the criminal complaint, 52-year-old Timmy Dean VanDorn entered the victim’s South Main Street Home on May 26th, 2024, and hit the victim in the back of the head with a hammer. He then grabbed a 9-inch butcher knife and stabbed the man in the left shin, and slashed his neck. Prairie City Police say the victim was treated at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines.

VanDorn was charged with Willful Injury-Causing Serious Injury, a Class C felony, but he pleaded guilty to an Aggravated Misdemeanor charge of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon. In addition to the two year prison term, District Court Judge Terry Rickers ordered VanDorn to pay an $855 fine.
