The #13 in 4A Pella girls basketball team couldn’t contain the #4 Norwalk Warriors as their season wrapped up in the Class 4A regional finals Tuesday, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
While the lead changed hands a few times early in the first quarter, the Warriors started to run away on the scoreboard quickly and hit a double-digit advantage by the end of the opening eight minutes.
The Dutch were paced by 15 points from Katie Scheckel and nine from Emma Walkup. The Warriors had five in double-figures, including 27 from Braylyn Birmingham and 21 from Bailey Birmingham. Head Coach Blaine Forsythe says the effort was present in all phases, but they couldn’t simply keep pace with a state title contender on their home floor.
“I was pleased with how we played offensively tonight, this was one of our better performances shooting the basketball collectively as a team. We weren’t able to get enough stops on the defensive end and Norwalk did a great job of scoring the basketball. We made a lot of growth throughout the season and ultimately came up short to an extremely talented and well coached Norwalk team.”
Pella finishes at 16-8 in 2024-25 and says farewell to six seniors.
