The United Way of Jasper County’s free guest speaker series “Voices of Inspiration” returns tonight with a Paralympic Gold Medalist. United Way of Jasper County Executive Director Jessica Lowe Vokes says Matt Stutzman was born without arms, and won the Gold Medal in Archery at the Paralympics in Paris last summer.
“Matt shares his story of how he was put up for adoption, how he was adopted, how he became interested in archery, and the things he overcame to get to the Paralympics.”
Vokes notes Stutzman also drives race cars, and grew up in Iowa after being adopted at the age of one by a farming family in Fairfield.
The “Voices of Inspiration” series was well received last year according to Vokes, and is back because of financial support from several local sponsors. DMACC donated use of the Auditorium on the Newton Campus to host the series. Stutzman will begin speaking tonight at 6:30 p.m. Seating is first come first served, with doors to the auditorium opening at 6 p.m.
