The Norwalk boys basketball team travels to Council Bluffs tonight for a Class 4A, Substate 1 semifinal against the Abraham Lincoln Lynx at 7:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on 94.3 KNIA as well as kniakrls.com (KNIA3), starting with pregame coverage at 6:45.
The Warriors advanced to the semifinal round with a 72-47 win over Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson on Monday night, improving to 11-11 overall. Norwalk seniors Cameron Thomas, Kaleb Foltz and Grady Sigrist combined for 44 points.
Council Bluffs AL has not played a game since Tuesday, February 18, when they lost to Dallas Center-Grimes 65-56. The Lynx started the season 17-0 but have dropped out of the Class 4A top 10 rankings following losses to Sioux City East and DC-G. Their overall record now stands at 18-2.
Abraham Lincoln is led by 6-foot-7 senior Creighton Bracker, who averages 16.6 points and 11 rebounds per game. Norwalk coach Aaron Pelzer tells KNIA Sports that the Lynx also have a solid supporting cast of guards. Pelzer says that his senior-laden team must play well in all facets of the game to advance to the next round.
“We’re going to have to play our best basketball of the season, put four quarters together,” Pelzer said. “We’re going to have to be really solid and disciplined on the defensive end, and then we’re going to have to really work for great shots.”
Tonight’s winner will face either seventh-ranked Waukee or Des Moines Lincoln in the Substate 1 final on Tuesday night.
