While a late-season snow storm provided some moisture, conditions are drying out again across the state and the region. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor report shows moderate drought has spread to most of Jasper County and portions of northern Marion and Warren Counties, and abnormally dry conditions remain in place in most of the latter two counties. A below average winter for snowfall overall has contributed to a dry start to the growing season. Senior Hydrologist Jeff Zogg with the National Weather Service says the second Spring Flood Outlook issued by their office shows a below average risk for river flooding in central Iowa, and their Climate Prediction Center Outlook shows a slightly above average chance for a wetter than normal spring in the eastern half of the state. Hear more from Zogg about the outlook on an upcoming edition of In Touch with South Central Iowa.
