
It was a tale of two halves, but ultimately the Central College men’s basketball team came out on the wrong end of an 82-75 loss to Washington-St. Louis heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Dutch started the game strong, shooting 53.8% while limiting the Bears to 33.3%, and took a 35-28 lead into the halftime break. In the second half, Washington-St. Louis shot 71.4% from the field to score 54 points while Central scored 40 points on 59.1% shooting, but it was not enough to keep up with the hot shooting Bears.
Joshua Van Gorp scored 39 points on 16-of-20 from the field while also collecting 11 rebounds for his 17th double-double of the season. Karson Wehde scored 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, while also adding six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Owen Schipper scored 10 points of his own while also dishing out a team-high five assists and eight rebounds. Off the bench, Grant Uecker chipped in eight points and two assists.
With this loss the memorable, and record-breaking season comes to an end for the Dutch. Van Gorp finished his career with 1991 points, which stands as the new record. Brand finished the season with 158 assists to set the new single season assist record. Along with the records, the Dutch made the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
