One of the highlights of many for the Melcher-Dallas Girls basketball Squad this season started off as one of the Saints’ low points of the season. Following an upset loss to Seymour in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament semifinals, the Saints had to come back less than 24 hours later and play in the 3rd place game against Ankeny Christian, who was also thinking about the title game. The Saints crushed the Eagles 54-23 in a game that the girls could have easily not been up for. However, Coach Kelsey Goff knew her team would come out with the kind of effort she expected.

Goff: “You come in on a Saturday at noon and not sure how the girls are going to respond. But I knew our girls would come out and respond like they needed to and take to whoever they were going to play, and it just happened to be ACA.”

The Saints would go on to win four of their next five and reach the class 1A regional semifinal, losing to eventual state tournament team Montezuma. Melcher-Dallas finished up 18-6 and were the regular season conference champions.
