Habitat for Humanity of Marion County is breaking ground on two new homes in Knoxville this summer and is seeking potential homebuyers.

Applications are open until May 31st. Habitat for Humanity’s vision is that every person has a safe, affordable home to live in. The local nonprofit has built dozens of homes in Marion County and provided low-interest mortgages, so they are affordable to low- to moderate-income families. Individuals and families with a household income of 50% to 80% of the median household income are encouraged to apply, between roughly $35,000 and $60,000, depending on family size.

“We’re completing three houses in May and selling them to three amazing families,” said Amy Meyer, Habitat Executive Director. “But shortly after, we’ll be breaking ground on two more homes on the land where East Elementary School used to be. So we’ll need two more families to buy these homes with a no-interest mortgage and down payment assistance.”

Meyer says there is also funding for critical home repair, which can help provide a new roof, furnace or other critical need to owner-occupied homes in Marion County. Applications for both the new homes, as well as critical home repair, can be found online at www.hfhmci.org, picked up at the Habitat for Humanity office at 2004 Hempstead Drive in Pella, emailed, or mailed, if needed. If you have questions, you can contact the Habitat for Humanity office at 641-828-8844.
