A recent civil service test conducted by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department has advanced two possible deputy candidates. Jasper County Sheriff Brad Shutts says eight people signed up for the March 1st test and seven actually took it.
“Unfortunately out of the eight applicants, we were only able to squeeze two out of it. They are moving on to the polygraph and other testing. Both are from out of the area. One is from Montezuma and the other Madrid.”
One position Sheriff Shutts has to fill is the School Resource Officer at Lynnville-Sully. Deputy Corey Van Kooten has been the SRO at Lynnville-Sully for a number of years. But he was sworn in as a sergeant February 28th by Sheriff Shutts at an all-school assembly in Sully. Van Kooten has been with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department since 2019. He will serve out the remainder of the school year at Lynnville-Sully, and go back on patrol at the end of May.
