The Newton boys track and field team sent twelve athletes to Ames Thursday to compete in six of the 15 events at the Class 3A IATC Indoor Championships at Iowa State University.

As a team, Newton tied for 16th out of the 25 3A schools at the meet. Newton senior Reilly Trease placed 3rd in the 60 meter hurdles (8.52), while junior Austin Arauz (9.44) and senior Cade Bauer (9.45) also ran in that event and finished 23rd and 25th respectively. Newton’s shuttle hurdle relay team of Trease, Arauz, Bauer, and sophomore Drew Bauer finished 3rd (34.85), and senior Nick Thomason competed in the 60 meter dash and finished 12th (7.24). Newton’s 4x400m relay team of junior Ali Yahia, senior Nate Maki, freshman Colter Shaw, and Arauz placed 13th with a time of 3:43.59. Junior Zach Felton was 23rd in the shot put (41’ 1.75”), while the Cardinals’ distance medley relay team was disqualified.
