The Jasper County Board of Supervisors have formally approved the federal aid agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for most of the funding on the County Highway F-48 West resurfacing from Colfax to the Polk County line. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says the federal funding is through the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program.
“We are looking at $2 million in Federal aid. That’s what the funding agreement would be for, $2 million”
This 5.3 miles of resurfacing from Colfax to Polk County is the third phase of resurfacing Highway F-48 West from the west edge of Newton to the Polk County line. The first phase from Newton to the South Skunk River bridge just south of Interstate 80 was completed last August. Work on the second phase, which is resurfacing 3.1 miles from the bridge to Iowa Highway 117 in Colfax, is to begin no later than May 5th. InRoads LLC of Des Moines was awarded that construction contract in November for $2.55 million. Once the company begins the project, they’ll have 120 working days to complete the resurfacing.
