Almost $63,000 is being added to a capital improvement project at Newton’s Water Treatment Plant. The city recently decided to replace the plant’s controls and telemetry at a cost of $225,000. This project was awarded to JETCO Incorporated in Altoona. Now JETCO has proposed modifications to the existing contract to incorporate additional automation enhancements for the Water Treatment Plant. These upgrades were not included in the original contract. Newton City Administrator Matt Muckler says several of the items in the change order are recommendations from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and will increase the Controls and Telemetry project by $62,844.
