The Pella School Board has indicated support for the proposed indoor recreation facility, first through formal resolution, and soon, likely with financial backing. Superintendent Greg Ebeling says there is money left over from a variety of key facilities projects completed from the November 2021 bond issue and other resources. He says the initial proposal that will formally come before the Pella School Board includes $1 million in funding over five years for a 15-to-20 year agreement to use the space. Ebeling says if the Pella City Council follows through with the project, they can create JV and varsity swim teams, which would likely be shared with Pella Christian. The Pella School Board will consider the measure before the Pella City Council reviews bids and potentially approves a contract on April 15th. Initial bids from the council showed some contracts could be $3 to $4 million below engineer’s estimates.
