Judicial reform has once again been a priority for State Senator Julian Garrett. Garrett tells KNIA News previous changes were made at the state level to allow the Governor to appoint more members for commissions that select judges, and removed a Supreme Court judge from the selection process. Garrett said he supports similar changes at the district court level.

“I would like to at least do that at the district court level, there is discussion of going even further than that, but there is at least discussion of doing the same thing at least at the district level that we do at the state level.”

The vote passed the funnel, and is expected to go before the full Iowa Senate for a vote soon. Garrett also said he is in the process of reviewing the property tax reform bill that will be before the Iowa Senate later this session.
