A Knoxville man has been arrested for felony eluding after a 123 mile per hour pursuit.
According to court records, on March 15th at approximately 6:51 pm a Marion County Sheriff Deputy was traveling northbound on Highway 5 near Jasper St when he observed a white Chevy Equinox passing vehicles traveling southbound. The deputy activated his front radar which indicated by audible tone and visual display that the Equinox was traveling at 81 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone. The deputy turned around and attempted to catch up to the Equinox. Near the intersection of Highway 92 and Lucas St, the deputy caught up to the Equinox and activated his emergency lights and sirens. The Equinox began to travel faster moving around traffic heading east on Highway 92.
Speeds reached 123 MPH and the vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Highway 92 and 92nd Ave. The driver was identified as Brady Allyn Laird. Dispatch advised that Laird’s driver’s license was under suspension. Laird was then taken into custody. The passenger of the Equinox advised later that they knew the deputy was attempting to stop them and that he talked Laird into pulling over.
Laird is charged with Eluding Over 25 MPH Limit, Reckless Driving, Speeding, and Driving Under Suspension. Laird was then arrested again on March 18th for a probation violation.
